Health is a complex issue and defining it first is important because it allows that person to decide if they need to do something about their health.
The word health is defined by the World health Organization (1994 & 1946) “health is broadly a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.
But what does the word healthy mean to you? Asa Registered Nurse I hear lots of answers, including I never think of my health until something goes wrong.
It’s interesting, isn’t it? We think of looking after our car and the importance of servicing it regularly, but we don’t think about our bodies in the same way. Having regular checkups with health professionals can identify areas we need to pay attention to and tune up, just like the car and prevent issues later on.
I often wonder if people knew more about chronic health conditions, they are either at risk of, or have would they want to know more?
If so let me know what information you need, and I can write a little about it and then give resources to give you the information.
It’s not about knowing everything, it’s about knowing what your risk factors are, or knowing the importance of hooking in with your health professional. It is also knowing enough to become engaged and ask some questions to engage with your health professional. You will always get more out of your appointments if you engage with the health professional.
